Graveyard Dirt

🪦 Let’s talk about death, shall we? 🪦

I’ve been using, sourcing, and providing graveyard dirt for witchcraft for several years now. This is a particularly polarising tool, so I figured it was about time I debunked some of the common misconceptions about this potent magic material.

First up, there’s the old “you’ve got to source it yourself” nonsense. If you aren’t able to leave your home, if you aren’t able to get so close to the floor, or if you don’t live close to a graveyard, that’s not possible. As long as you trust the person sourcing it for you (hi 👋) you’re absolutely fine.

And then there’s the whole “don’t sell it” bit, which is understandable. I charge for the packaging, and for the time it takes me to source, provide offerings and package it. Cool? Cool.

And then there’s the ethics.

My graveyard dirt is always “general purpose”. Collected from the edges of pathways rather than individual graves. Offerings are left at every visit, as well as offerings to deities which protect the dead on my altar.

Happy so far? Here’s how you can use it in your practice:

In witchcraft, graveyard dirt is often used for protection, banishing, ancestral work, and spirit communication. It is believed to carry the energy of the dead and is commonly used in spells for justice, binding, or cursing, depending on the intent. Practitioners may collect it from specific graves to enhance its potency, such as from an ancestor for guidance or from a soldier’s grave for strength.
